Friends or What?
January 1999:
Closing her eyes, Eagle leaned back in the hot tub. “Hey sis, I've been meaning ask you something.”
Blinking, Gadget asked, “Why didn't you ask it earlier?”
“Because I didn't want to with him around,” Eagle replied with a smirk. “Anyways, what is the story with you and Chaos?”
“And just what is that supposed to mean?” Gadget snapped angrily.
“Well, it's just that he's called you stubborn and hasn't been beaten up over it yet.” Opening her eyes, Eagle formed an evil grin. “Based on that, I think you like the guy.”
“I do not!”
“Oh, yeah? Then why haven't you clobbered him?” Eagle asked reasonably.
“It's... it's...” Startled by the question, Gadget couldn't figure out an answer.
“Oooh, you do like him.” Chuckling, Eagle quickly pointed out, “And you're blushing sis.”
“I am not!” Gadget quickly protested despite her beak getting darker in color.
“Yeah, sure you're not,” Eagle replied with a laugh. “Why not just admit it and save yourself further embarrassment?”
“Because I don't like him!” Throwing up her arms, Gadget asked, “What is so hard to understand about that?”
“Keep telling yourself that.” Rubbing her chin, Eagle smiled, “You know, I just remembered something else that supports my idea.”
Lightly growling, Gadget asked, “Now what?”
“Well, he is the first guy that you've played one on one with in Unreal Tournament.”
“That does it!” Snarling, Gadget quickly added, “I am so going to kick your ass!”
“Oooh, I'm quivering with fear,” Eagle replied sarcastically. “Besides, I'm not the one denying liking a guy.”
“I will get you back for this.” Crossing her arms, Gadget glared at her rookery sister.
“Yeah, like that look is going to scare me,” Eagle said with a smile. She had to admit it wasn't often she got tease to Gadget about something. “After all, I seem to recall that you asked him to escort and then dance with you at the Winter Solstice party.”
“Gah!”Getting out of the hot tub, Gadget muttered several choice curses under her breath. After snagging her towel, she wandered the halls for a few minutes before finding Chaos. “Damn it, it's all your fault!”
Surprised, he nearly dumped his drink all over the floor. “I didn't do anything!”
“Yes, you did!” She snapped. “Because of what you've done, Eagle thinks I like you.”
“Wait... what?”
Snarling, she jabbed finger into his chest. “Don't play dumb with me buster!”
Now what? he thought to himself. “Look, I have no idea what you're talking about.”
Resisting the urge to shake him, she shot back, “Stop acting clueless about the matter.”
“Hey, don't start that!” He shot back with a snarl. Taking a deep breath, Chaos tried to calm down. “Just tell me what is going on.”
“I told you all ready,” Gadget answered. Waving her hands about, she added, “Eagle thinks I like you!”
Grimacing, he cautiously asked, “Well, uh, is she correct?”
Blushing slightly at the question, she didn't respond for several seconds. Growling, she crossed her arms. “Don't change the subject!”
“Eh... is that a yes?”
Don't blush! Don't blush! A moment later, she could tell her wishful thinking had failed as her beak started to burn. “Maybe... a little bit. And you can't tell anybody!”
Blinking, Chaos cocked his head to one side and merely pointed behind her.
Groaning, Gadget muttered a quiet curse. “Let me guess, somebody is standing behind me?”
Smirking, Eagle replied, “My, my, this certainly is juicy.”
“You can't tell anyone!” Gadget quickly snapped.
Turning, the smaller gargoyle held up a tape recorder before bolting from the room.
Sighing, Chaos watched Gadget give chase. Shaking his head, he thought to himself, Things just keep getting stranger and stranger...
End.
